Red light on traffic intersection lights

City of Sunny Isles Beach to Begin Intersection Safety Camera Program

August 1 – 31, drivers who run the red light will receive a warning, then payable enforcement begins September 1.

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. (July 15, 2024) – Continuing their commitment to improve pedestrian safety, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is implementing the Intersection Safety Camera Program to reduce the number of traffic violations, crashes, and injuries caused by red-light runners. Powered by RedSpeed Florida, these red-light cameras will be installed at various intersections throughout the City, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The program will begin with a warning period from August 1 to August 31, allowing motorists time to adjust their driving habits. Starting September 1, payable notices of violation will be issued with a fine of $158 for red-light violations.

The following intersections will be monitored:

•Eastbound Sunny Isles Blvd. at Signaled Pedestrian Crosswalk (200 block)
•183 St. and Collins Ave. Northbound and Southbound Lanes
•193 St. and Collins Ave. Southbound Lanes Only
•159 St. and Collins Ave. Northbound and Southbound Lanes

“Photo Enforced” signs will be posted at these intersections. The cameras will be activated by sensors that detect vehicle movement when the traffic signal turns red. Each video recording is then reviewed by the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department before a notice of violation is issued. The registered owner of the vehicle will receive the $158 civil violation in the mail.

Violations must be paid online at secure.redlightviolations.com, by phone at 877.204.0904, or by mail as indicated on the notice.

Unpaid violations will be transferred to the Miami-Dade County Clerk of Court, increasing the fine to $277. This can lead to a registration hold and potential points on the violator’s driver’s license. Please note that City management and elected officials do not have authority to waive citations.
