Vice Mayor - Lewis J. Thaler

Biography

Lew Thaler is a New York native, having been born in Brooklyn, growing up in Long Island and moving to Manhattan in 1989.

After going to NYU for accounting, Mr. Thaler went to the Fashion Institute of Technology to study textiles. Employed by Manhattan Shirt Company, first as a textile colorist and later as a merchandiser, he left in 1965 to become a partner in an apparel company.

For twenty years he was the treasurer of the National Sportswear Apparel Association. He was treasurer and vice president of Temple Israel of South Merrick, New York for many years. While living in New York City, he served on his co-op board and was its president for three years. He also sat on the board of the Florence Heller Foundation and was on the board of the Barry and Florence Friedberg JCC on Oceanside after serving as its President for four years.

Retiring to south Florida was a natural for Thaler since he has been coming to this area for over thirty years: to visit his parents who live in Sunny Isles Beach and as a businessman with offices in Hialeah and Miami Lakes. He presently sits on the financial committee at his condominium complex. He is a member of the Michael-Ann Russell JCC, a member of the board of directors of the Aventura-Sunny Isles Beach Chamber of Commerce and a member of the League of Florida Cities of which he was nominating as one of the top five commissioners in Florida. Recently he became a Founder of Mt. Sinai Hospital and is a member of the Alzheimer’s Notables of Douglas Gardens Jewish Home.
