Resident Parking in Central Area of Sunny Isles Beach

By: Helena Forbes, Community Development Department Manager

The City of Sunny Isles Beach has been making improvements to its stormwater drainage system in the central area of the city – west of Collins Avenue from 183 Street to 174 Street.
These improvements were undertaken to reduce flooding, facilitate traffic flow, provide lighting and landscaping, and, for pedestrian and bicyclists’ safety, create a ten-foot wide multipurpose path along North Bay Road.
During construction, the City temporarily removed all signs (including parking signs) in this central area, and the Community Development Department has not been enforcing the resident parking requirements.
Since this project is now complete and new parking signs have been installed, this article serves to notify everyone that parking enforcement in this central area will resume on March 15, 2010.

RESIDENT-ONLY DECAL PARKING AREAS
The City has designated street parking areas that are for residents only. These areas are indicated by signs that say “Restricted Residential Parking Area, Residential Permit Only.” To park in these areas vehicles must display a decal that is available from the City – see purchasing information below.
Resident-only parking (see map) is located at:

  • 181 Drive, south side at east end.
  • 180 Drive, north and south sides.
  • 179 Drive, south side.
  • North Bay Road, east side south of 179 Drive.
  • 178 Street, north and south sides from 179 Drive to North Bay Road.
  • 178 Drive, north side from 178 Street to northeast end of Senator Gwen Margolis Park, and south side from 178 Street to Church Street.
  • 177 Drive, north and south sides.
  • Atlantic Blvd., west side from 177 Drive to 175 Terrace.

To avoid a parking ticket, anyone parking in the areas listed above must display a resident parking decal.
Residents with a parking permit are also allowed to park in the Free 3 Hour parking areas on the east side of Atlantic Blvd. between 183 and 178 Streets; and on the east side of 178 Drive south of Church Street.

FREE PARKING
There are two areas where parking is allowed without a resident decal, short-term and free. These areas include:

  • Designated areas at city parks.
  • Free 3 hour parking along the east side of Atlantic Blvd. between 183 and 178 Streets; and on 178 Drive south of Church Street across from Senator Gwen Margolis Park.

PARKING 24-HOURS/DAY
With a resident parking decal, parking is allowed in the designated residential parking permit areas 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
