Life in the City
By Bari Auerbach

'State of the City'

Every year around this time, the Mayor issues his “State of the City Address” highlighting the city’s prosperity and initiatives benefiting residents of Sunny Isles Beach. But if savvy marketing pros decided to embellish upon the Mayor’s message just a bit – the State of the City Address might look something like this…

Dear Citizens of Sunny Isles Beach:
It is my pleasure and privilege to report to you that while Miami was once named the “fattest city” and Hialeah was once deemed the most “boring city” – in Sunny Isles Beach you’ll see some of the best bikini bodies anywhere - and with all the activities planned by the Cultural and Human Services Department – there’s never a dull moment!

Significant highlights of this past year included the ongoing success of the city’s first new public school and the groundbreaking event for Heritage Park. Rumor has it President Barack Obama may ask Congress to approve moving the White House to Sunny Isles Beach so his kids can get the best education, play with their new puppy at the park and instead of Camp David – the whole family can relax at “Dave” Samson Oceanfront Park.

Town Center re-development also continued this past year on Sunny Isles Boulevard…The improvements are anticipated to be so amazing, producers from the show “Extreme Makeover” may want to feature the dramatic before/after transformation! This initiative could earn the city a “People’s Choice” award for progress. And the blockbuster film documenting Sunny Isles Beach history - “From Sandbar to Sophistication” - just could win an Oscar proving tax revenues generated from new construction could be even bigger than “Avatar” ticket sales!

My fellow citizens, as we enter the New Year of 2010, the City Commission pledges to pass even more proactive resolutions such as: Banning all future hurricanes from ever making landfall in Sunny Isles Beach and extending sunlight hours for even more tanning time at the beach.

In conclusion, we wish everyone in our community a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. Thank you and God bless 80 degree weather in winter!
