“Sunny Isles Beach Officer Wins Rookie of the Year Award for All of Miami-Dade County…”

By: Chief Fred Maas

More than 650 people attended the 15th annual PBA Awards Gala on Saturday, May 17th at the Wyndham Hotel. The event brings together not only law enforcement officials but many from our state legislative and local judiciary to support law enforcement efforts.

One of the most anticipated events of the evening is the presentation of the various awards including Officer of the Year and Rookie Officer of the Year for all of Miami Dade County. The competition is tough, I assure you.

We were thrilled when Officer Luke Plesa of our Sunny Isles Beach Police Department was named winner of the Rookie of the Year! Luke was involved in a number of incidents and good arrests in his first year on the department with us. And just to show he isn’t gloating in his good fortune, he went out the next day, Sunday, and found an occupied stolen vehicle in our city, with (5) five, yes five subjects in it. With the help of other officers who came to his aid, the subjects were caught and the vehicle recovered. Nice work Luke even after you had received such a prestigious award.

We are proud of ALL our officers, that includes the new ones, who show great promise working in this city, for you. As I have said before, when one of them brings recognition to our department and city, we all share a bit of the spotlight and good news! Congratulations Officer Luke Plesa!!
