Feeling Green?
By Anna Levin, Events Coordinator

With “going green” becoming a growing global trend, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is doing a TREE-mendous job!

A group of Ojus Elementary School students have been learning about the importance of Arbor Day. And on Friday, April 25th, Mrs. Mejia’s 3rd grade class joined the City of Sunny Isles Beach for our second annual Arbor Day celebration. Mayor Norman S. Edelcup, along with our city commission and the 3rd graders, planted a Florida Live oak tree, which they named Oakie, at Senator Gwen Margolis Park for the enjoyment of future generations. The two-hour event included an environmental presentation, the tree planting ceremony, herb and mangrove crafts for the kids, a visit from “Georgie” the monkey, and lunch donated by Whole Foods Market. The City of Sunny Isles Beach offers our deepest gratitude to the Wildlife Research Fund, Whole Foods Market, Ojus Elementary, and everyone else who helped make this event successful.
