Jaime A. Mitrani, P.E.

I had the privilege of working with Jaime for the last 8 years. I will miss his technical expertise, professional sense of interpretation of our codes, and most of all his friendship. Jaime, through his long and rewarding career, obtained the highest level of technical expertise. He was sought after and held positions on Florida Contractors licensing review Boards and other local boards. His commitment to his profession was second to none. His job here at Sunny Isles Beach as our Chief Structural Plans Examiner and heading our high rise division was very rewarding for him and extremely helpful to us and the community as a whole. It was evident that Jaime took much pride in the development of this community. Jaime’s dedication to his family, religion, and profession was mirrored with the compassion he had for his coworkers, professional peers, and many friends. We all considered Jaime a personal friend and will miss him very much. Our hearts and prayers go out to Jaime’s wife, children, and grandchildren.

Jaime Mitrani was a very special man to me. I have been fortunate to have had 4 mentors in my tenure with building department inspections and plan review. Unfortunately, 3 of those mentors are no longer with us. Jaime was a demanding, intense, and knowledgeable man, who expected much out of those he worked with. This was one of the reasons that he was influential in my life, I knew that I could never “slack off”, because Jaime never “slacked off”. Jaime had a wonderful heart and showed it one day in a meeting that we had. He had been considering an offer made by another city to work full time for them, that day it happened to be Jaime’s birthday and we had a celebration for him. He was so touched he made the comment that it was a difficult decision for him, but that he felt that his co-workers in the building department were his second family. He didn’t end up with the other job. I felt fortunate that he stayed, and knew that I could go to him with any question and feel confident that I would get accurate information. Anything that I thought was questionable I could discuss with him until the matter was resolved. Jaime will truly be missed, but his spirit will be with us forever.

Mr. Jaime Mitrani was a positive influence in the lives of many people. His vast knowledge and wisdom was appreciated by many and his remarkable life stories always amused and captivated the listening audience around him. He will always be remembered among us for the love and passion to his job. His smile, his unforgettable tone of voice, and his candid spirit will always be remembered among the people in the Building Department. I thank God for the opportunity of being able to work close to Mr. Mitrani for almost three years. He was definitively and inspiration to my life, a mentor, and a friend. His sudden and unexpected passing is a great loss to all of us who were close to him. It leads us to meditate that life is short, even if you live to be 80 years old… We are here today, but only God holds the future of our lives. God knows the first and the last day of our passing on this planet, and He has a purpose for our lives that we must fulfill. We must live life to the fullest, one day at a time, knowing that some day we will stand in front of our Creator. Jaime’s life, dedication, perseverance, spirit of advancement, and love for what he did, serves as inspiration and example to all who knew him. We will greatly miss him!!

When I met Jaime in 2003, I said to myself…“What a loud old man that is!” However, after getting to know Jaime, I realized he was always ready to teach anyone who was willing to learn. He did not just talk; he would show you in the code book word for word. You could sit in his office and talk about anything. The Building Department has lost a big part of its team… I am going to miss you Mr. Mitrani.
